Tarte Stop and Stare 6-Piece Eyeliner & Lash Set: Swatches and Review

I Purchased This Affiliate Link

I'm so happy that my first semester of grad school is over, now I can actually spend winter break blogging (without feeling like I'm neglected my school work). There are a few reviews I have to get up soon but I did want to finish this one and my next on the Bite Beauty Best Bite Set because they're limited edition holiday items.

After seeing Phyrra's review of the Tarte Stop & Stare Eyeliner Set, I knew I had to get my hands on it. It was on sale at Sephora for only $27 (down from $39) and combined with the Beauty Insider Reward Certificate, it was a sweet deal. Today, I'm going to review the eyeliners (not the mascara).

Where to purchase: Sephora (affiliate link) and ULTA

Price: $27 for three skinny SmolderEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liners and two SmolderEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liners plus one deluxe Lights, Camera, Flashes Statement Mascara. It was previously priced for $39 but is on sale at Sephora and ULTA (it was on sale in stores at Sephora but I'm not sure about ULTA).
Do they test on animals?: The company does not.
Packaging: The pencils are all color coordinated and sharpenable. The thicker Amazonian Clay Liners come with a built in smudger tip.

The three Skinny Amazonian Clay Liners are Purple Garnet, Azurite Green, and Onyx. Onyx is permanent and Purple Garnet and Azurite Green are limited edition.

The regular Amazonian Clay liners come in Rose Gold and Taupe. I personally don't think it's actually a Rose Gold, I do think it's more bronze and not pink enough but it's still a nice color. These appear to be limited edition colors.

Swatches:

The eyeliners were scribbled on and the swatch pictures were taken in natural daylight with no flash.

From left to right: Azurite Green, Onyx, Purple Garnet, Rose Gold, and Taupe.

The eyeliners set quickly within 45 seconds. Once set, you can rub and the eyeliners won't go anywhere. The sparkles in Purple Garnet did rub away but the main color is there.

Here's what the eyeliners looked like after I rubbed them with my fingers. Nary a movement detected. Only the sparkle in Purple Garnet migrated.

Formula:

The eyeliners are all soft, creamy, and extremely pigmented. It doesn't take much pressure to get a smooth line on your lid. The eyeliner also smudges/blends out beautifully as long as you do it before it sets. These also apply well and stick well on the waterline. However, while they are rub-proof/waterproof, I don't find these to be transfer proof or crease resistant.

For Azurite Green, it started transferring onto my upper lid after three hours even over Too Faced Shadow Insurance. This happens with most pencil eyeliners I own and is primarily due to my hooded eyeshape. I don't think this will be a problem with anyone else as long as your eye shape isn't very similar to mine.

With Rose Gold, when worn all over my eyelid, there was the beginning of creasing after four hours even over Too Faced Shadow Insurance. I'm disappointed that even an eyeshadow primer didn't help prevent any transferring or creasing by itself so I'll wear the pencils as an eyeshadow base as opposed to on its own. For a prestige brand, I had expected more.

While the formula didn't fare well on the eyelid, this is BRILLIANT for the waterline. Azurite Green lasted TEN hours on the waterline. TEN. I've never had an eyeliner last SO long on my waterline. This is just a testament to the waterproof claim.

Waterline test:

You can see that while the color has faded, the majority of the color is still on the waterline. I'm so so impressed and I really love the color for the waterline.

Purchase if...
a) You have dry lids
b) You're searching for an eyeliner that'll last on the waterline
c) You've liked the Tarte Amazonian Clay Eyeliner formula in the past

Don't get if...
a) You have oily lids and aren't willing to wear an eyeshadow primer and set it
b) You want to wear these as cream eyeshadows by themselves
