Review: Smith Cosmetics 212 Tightliner Brush and 230 Quill Crease Brush Small

I Purchased This

Hey everyone!

Today I have a review of two Smith Cosmetics brushes, the 212 Tightliner Brush (the flat eyeliner-looking brush) and the 230 Quill Crease Brush Small (the white fluffy looking brush). I think everyone in the beauty community on Instagram has heard so much good things about Smith Cosmetics brushes.

I had the opportunity to see Smith Cosmetics in person at PHAMExpo and I was stoked to be able to buy them in person. I originally only got the 230 Quill Crease Brush but then got talked into the 212 Tightliner Brush.

So the question is, are these brushes worth the brand hype? Check out my review of them below!

Where to Purchase: Smith Cosmetics
Price: $18.00 for 212 Tightliner Brush, $22.00 for 230 Quill Crease Brush Small
Do they test on animals?: The company does not test on animals.
Packaging: The brushes come in plastic sleeves.

Review:

Originally when I went to the booth, I had contemplated the 220 Eyeshadow Finishing Brush for lower lash line work. I'm glad I got to see it in person because relative to my eye shape, the brush is absolutely massive against my lower lash line and would have been like me trying to use a broom to blend out color on my lower liner. Instead I got the 212 Tightliner brush and I'm so glad I did.

Smith says the 212 is the "ultimate tool for precision with soft touch, this detail-oriented brush applies color to the delicate inner rim of the eye with the silkiest synthetic sable hair."

I like this brush because it is perfect for applying eyeshadow or blending out eyeliner on my lower lash line. The brush has enough shape so it's not floppy but isn't too stuff that it hurts. I honestly don't tightline my eyes so I don't know how well it works for that purposes but if you have a smaller eye shape, I think you'll really enjoy the brush.

The next brush is the 230 Quill Crease Brush Small. I was between that and 232 Quill Crease Brush Large and I'm glad I went with the 230 Quill Crease Brush Small because it's better suited for my eye shape.

Smith says the 230 is "designed to apply and blend eyeshadow into the crease, this brush is made from the highest quality soft natural goat hair. Its smaller size and pointed tip make it the ideal tool for detailed crease work and smaller or deep-set eyes."

I like the brush because the bristles at the top are tapered but maintain its streamlined shape which allows for packing and blending eyeshadow on my outer lid or crease. It's also good for blending out my transition shade. Its side profile isn't quite as pointy as it looks on the website.

All in all, I think the brushes are totally worth it. Unfortunately they are only available online and the shipping is quite high, about $10. For that reason, you can try to do a group order or purchase a few brushes to make the shipping more worth it. I believe they are trying to lower the shipping costs but they are shipping from Canada which already makes the shipping cost more expensive.

Conclusion:

I'm so glad I got both brushes because they really suit different roles in my eye makeup application. The 212 Tightliner brush is excellent for applying eyeshadow to my lower lash line and the 230 Quill Crease Brush Small is what my outer eyelid has been waiting for. It's perfect for outer corner application and blending out color in the crease. If you don't mind paying a little much in shipping, I highly suggest trying them out!

Thank you for introducing me to this brand! They both look gorgeous. Also, I'm embarrassed to admit that I have never used a straight tight line brush - I didn't know what they were for though I own several! I use a pencil to tightline, but maybe I'll try a brush next!!

  7. I am interested in the crease brush. I bought a MAC 217 years ago, and within about 2 years it began losing it's shape. It looks like a turd now. :/

  13. I bought a few of those coffee measuring cups. They're 1/8 c., or 1 oz. Very handy for many things.
