Announcement: The Makeup Show LA 2017 - November 4th and 5th

Hey everyone!

I'm so excited to talk about one of my favorite events of the year, The Makeup Show LA! If you're not familiar, this is a professional trade show for individuals in the beauty industry. Unlike other trade shows, this is geared towards working professionals and has much to offer for someone looking to expand their knowledge and network in the community.

The show actually used to be held in March but this year it's being held in November. The dates are Saturday, November 4, 9:00 am – 6:00 pm and Sunday, November 5, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm at the California Market Center in Downtown LA.

Unlike most other trade shows, they emphasize the opportunity to stock up your kit while also learning from those working in the industry without judgment.

Here are some of the offerings and some of my picks for brands to look out for at the show:
Education

The majority of education available at the show are included in the ticket, here is a highlight of the types of education offered.

Keynote Forums

Throughout the show, there will be speeches and demonstrations going on discussing topics that are relevant to the current industry.

Hands-on Workshops

If you're down for learning in a smaller environment, you'll like the hands-on workshops. These are workshops that you will pay to attend but will be worth it if you want to get the opportunity to pick the brains of artists in the industry.

Exhibitors

bdellium Tools

Whenever anyone asks for a starter set of makeup brushes, I tend to think of bdellium Tools.  They have a range of both synthetic and natural hair brushes, many of which work great for professionals and consumers alike. I think the purple bambu set is gorgeous for your vanity and functional too. Scope out their Maestro line!

Danessa Myricks Beauty

Just looking at her work/Instagram is so inspiring, especially in an industry that doesn't do nearly enough of a job ensuring that people of color are represented. Already an established makeup artist, she developed a makeup range with highlighters, powders, and pigmented multipurpose creams.

Hakuhodo

The Japanese brush maker, no wait time (or sales tax) to deal with. I have a few of their eye brushes and have been eyeing their kabuki brushes for years. If you'd like to, feel free to read my review on one of their eye brushes but know that they're a well-established crafter of makeup brushes.

Make Up For Ever

Make Up For Ever have been revamping many of their face products recently so it's not really a surprise that they're planning a new eyeshadow range that won't be launching until December, but if you go to the show you'll get your first look at them!

Mario Badescu

Mario Badescu is one of those classic skincare brands and you need good skincare to have a good base and sometimes a good moisturizer can make a big difference when you're on set. Their Drying Cream is something I've used for years for my acne. It makes a huge difference for whiteheads!

Senna Cosmetics

Most known for their brow products, Senna has a great range of color cosmetics too! I've been using their Powder Brow Styling Pencil on and off for the last year and have been liking the filled in but not fake look I get it from it. I'm hoping they still have their Eye and Face Palettes available, each styled after a decade of Senna!

Smith Cosmetics

I'm fairly certain this is the first time Smith have been at The Makeup Show LA and if they are, it's a match made in heaven. I thoroughly enjoy Smith Cosmetics brushes but they aren't making mere duplicates of other popular shapes (how many versions of the MAC 217 are out there) but they put thought into each brush and how it serves a purpose. Their Smithfolio (brush case) also looks cool as hell.
Urban Decay

Typically known for being a consumer brand now, Urban Decay can still make its mark when it comes to products that will cater to the professional. I'm excited to see some of their most recent launches, especially their lipstick and liquid lipstick range.

Veil Cosmetics

For all that we talk about highlighters, I think we can forget that illumination can come from our base/complexion products too. There is the Complexion Fix, a correcting concealer/highlighter; Sunset Light, a hydrating primer, and Sunset Skin, a whipped foundation. I want to try out their concealer/highlighter, especially for my undereye.

Events

The Makeup Show is also hosting a pre-show event and has a new special area within the show.

The Beauty Brunch

For $30.00 on November 3rd, 4:00-6:00

  • "Take an opportunity to share some time with your favorite artists and brands at The Makeup Show’s The Beauty Brunch. This year The Makeup Show creates more opportunities for you to connect to the industry insiders and artists that inspire you in a more intimate environment. Sip champagne cocktails and celebrate the beauty business and bring home a gift bag full of the pro community’s favorite products. Space is limited at this exclusive event. The Beauty Brunch affords every artist a chance to sit in with their idols, industry icons and the artists who are influencing the work we do everyday."

The Makeup Play Area

  • "The Makeup Show introduces the first Makeup Play Area. This specifically designed area offers the ideal environment for artists of all experience levels to be introduced to new product, practice and improve their makeup skills, explore and play with product provided by The Makeup Show brands and interact with other artists in a fun environment and under the guidance of brand experts and The Makeup Show team of experienced artists.

I hope you will be able to attend the show! I'm excited to see what these brands have available and to see some of the launches ahead of time!
