bareMinerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolor in Bo$$ - Swatch and Review

Hey everyone!

Today I have a review of the bareMinerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolor. I first heard about these liquid lip colors from EmilyNoel83 on Youtube and she touted them as an extremely comfortable liquid lip color.  I put off buying one until I saw that they were one of ULTA's Hot Buys during their 21 Days of Beauty event. Normally $19, they were $13 during the sale. I picked up Bo$$, described as a dirty pink beige.

The Gen Nude range includes sixty shades across four different product ranges meant to suit all different skin tones. Considering that most people think "beige" when they say nude, I was rather impressed with the variety of colors and formulas I saw.

bareMinerals says:
  • "this long-wearing matte liquid lipstick formula is primer-infused to help color stay in place and prevent feathering. With a velvety, lightweight feel it glides on with no pull and contains moisturizing ingredients to counteract the dryness associated with many matte lipsticks."
The brand makes some pretty big promises and I had high hopes and so I wanted to see if it was really all that different from other liquid lipstick formulas. To read my thoughts and see swatches, feel free to click through!

The Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolor is $19.00 for 4mL/0.13 oz. You can get it from BareMinerals, NordstromSephora, and ULTA. You can also get a percent cash back from all these stores when using Ebates (you can sign up using my referral link!)

These liquid lipsticks come in a frosted plastic tube with a doefoot applicator; the doefoot applicator is flat on the sides to help apply product on.

Review

This is supposed to be long-wearing, matte, not feather, have a lightweight feel, and not dry out your lips compared to other liquid lipsticks. When it comes to all the claims, it manages to pretty spot-on.

Note that this is a formula that doesn't dry down completely, for that reason it's not transfer-proof but it can still last fairly well during a meal and throughout the day. What's unique and what makes it better than other liquid lipsticks it that this is a formula that you can easily touch up or reapply without it flaking or cracking underneath. The vast majority of liquid lipsticks have to be removed if you want to reapply, not so for this.

The formula faded evenly during its wear, no awful ring of lipstick after eating or drinking. It feels quite comfortable because it doesn't dry down 100% but it doesn't feel sticky or tacky (which I dislike with liquid lipsticks). It's got a vanilla scent that reminds me of buttercream without being sickeningly sweet. I ate a slightly greasy meal and still had about 90% of the intensity on after an 8 hour wear. I also noticed that my lips didn't feel parched like the desert after removing. I don't think it's particularly moisturizing but it wasn't as drying as other liquid lipsticks.

Swatch

I think that the swatch doesn't really do the color justice; I think it's got more of a dusty quality in person; it's quite a flattering color for the Fall/Winter season.

Conclusion

In short, I think this is the liquid lipstick for people who hate most liquid lipsticks. You won't feel like your lips are tight, immovable, and dry as a desert. This feels comfortable because it doesn't dry down completely but also consider that it's not 100% transfer-proof. I think it's worth the price and might be a great pick if you want to continue using liquid lipsticks in the Fall and Winter. I kind of regret not trying this out before they were on sale so I could have gotten more! I did notice they have a "Statement" version of this range where the colors are much brighter, but I think I prefer the nude shades!

What do you look for in a liquid lipstick?

That's a great shade. I would love it too. I am always afraid to try liquid mattes because they wreck my already dry lips, and I found that I can wear Jesse's Girl and it's only $3.99 but it only comes in two shades, one of which is similar to Bo$$. During the sale events at Sephora/Ulta, I may just have to try one of these and see if I can wear it.

  5. I really like this color on you. You've got great lips already and this enhances them. I've liked the Gen Nude lip products I've tried but I haven't tried the mattes yet.

  6. Bo$$ is a shade I'd wear all year-round. And this coming from a 60 shade selection?! Whoa!

I love watching Emily's beauty blogs. She's cost me a pretty penny more than once!!

  7. I like liquid lipsticks, particularly when they come with a gloss. My old lips have gotten thin and the lines around them make it difficult to apply regular lipstick. Liquid lipsticks don't feather and stay on longer, although they still eat or wear off in the middle no matter what. I look for brands that stay on a long time, are not drying, and that don't feather I often wear LipSense , a brand that is like no other in the way it applies and feels. It stays on a fairly long time but still wears off eventually in the center. The shade choice is enormous and there is absolutely no transfer. I am sure if I had full lips like you do then the colors would stay on forever.

  8. I love the way you described the finish, that is precisely why I don't enjoy wearing most liquid lipsticks. I may give this one a try.
