Catrice Liquid Metal Longlasting Cream Eyeshadow - Swatches and Review

Hey everyone!

I have a review on the Catrice Liquid Metal Longlasting Cream Eyeshadows. I think I first heard about these eyeshadows on Instagram and on blogs in the UK/Germany. Catrice recently launched in the US but has been much more popular overseas. These were very enticing cream eyeshadows, mainly because the idea of anything promoting themselves as liquid metal/metallic has me saying "sign me up!".

These were super enticing since they are quite inexpensive; $5.99 for 6 mL/0.2 oz available at Catrice or ULTA. You can get free shipping on orders over $20 on Catrice's website or $50 on ULTA's website. You can get 15% off on Catrice's website if you sign up for their newsletter while Catrice sometimes goes on Buy One Get One 50% off on ULTA's website.

First thing is that some of the shade names are a little stupid, they're supposed to be punny but aren't really that great.

From left to right: California Creamin' (I know, a spin on California Dreamin'), Champagne Shower, Daily Dose of Rose, Brown Under, and Smart Mauve. These are packaged in a slimline tube with a doefoot applicator.

Catrice says:
  • "Creamy metallic eyeshadow is extra longlasting and reflects the light like pure liquid metal. Crease-proof, fade-proof, high coverage formula is easy to apply, thanks to the soft and precise applicator. Can be used alone or as a highly pigmented base for a vibrant metallic eye look"

Review

Let's tackle the formula and its claims.

It is definitely a creamy eyeshadow, almost more like a liquid eyeshadow so it feels a little wet but ends up drying down quickly once blended out. The eyeshadow has an amazing metallic finish that catches the light so well. If you're into doing halo eye looks, this would be perfect to apply to the center of your eyelids.

It's great used alone but it dries down way too quickly to use it as a base; you usually want an eyeshadow to stay a little tacky so eyeshadow will stick to it but this dries down smoothly.

For the best look, apply light layers with your fingers instead of a brush because using a brush tends to make it look more patchy. It's much easier to apply lighter layers than a lot at once. I usually dab the top of the doefoot wand (not the sides) on my finger and apply. If you apply too heavy of a layer, it ends up looking crinkly, tight, and your eyeshadow can have a hard edge.

I've been able to get 8 hours of wear without an eyeshadow primer before it starts to crease or 9+ hours when I wear an eyeshadow primer. I noticed a smidgen of fallout due to the metallic finish but it's also virtually rub-proof when dry. However, this isn't water-resistant though, it can come off if your eyes get wet but it makes it easier to remove at the end of the day, despite being very long lasting on my oily eyelids.

Swatches

I have both arm swatches and eye swatches of each color. I know they look a lot lighter on my eyes but that's because of how well it catches the light. It's really beautiful in person.

For this photo, the swatches are in order from top left going counterclockwise.

In Conclusion

If you're seeking a liquid-cream eyeshadow that gives you that high shine metallic effect, you won't go wrong with these eyeshadows. If you have especially teary-eyes or don't like applying eyeshadows with your fingers, you may want to skip this. Otherwise, you'll definitely enjoy how the eyeshadows catch the light and add a ton of depth to your eyes for only $5.99!

The shades are so soft and pretty. I was standing in front of the Catrice display at Ulta recently wondering what to try, and I ended up with nothing. I have super dry eyelids but maybe this would be fun to try for a halo effect

  5. I love a formula like that. I also didn't know what to buy from Catrice but these are on my list. I hope I can get there during the 20% sale to pick up one or two.

  7. I don't like to apply with my fingers, and yet, I'm always looking for a good metallic wet look like this, so I think I'll be looking for them.

  9. They are such pretty shades! However, with the heat we are currently experimenting it would be best to wait for fall to try them for me.
