The Bronzer for People Who Don't Use Bronzers: Makeup Geek Bronze Luster in Tawny

I Purchased This Affiliate Links

Hey everyone!

Today I have a review on the Makeup Geek Bronze Luster in TawnyOf all the things I've talked about on the blog, you might have noticed (or not noticed) the fact that I don't talk about bronzer that much. If I'm honest, I think I could count the number of bronzers I've owned in my life on one hand. Makeup Geek had a great Mystery Box deal where you could get a bunch of their products for a great discount so I wanted to give it a try, even knowing the set came with a bronzer.

The Makeup Geek Bronze Luster Bronzer was released as part of their In the Nude Collection earlier this year; there are three shades available: Sun-Kissed (for light skin tones), Tawny (for medium skin tones), and Burnished (for deeper skin tones).

Real Techniques Instapop Eye Duo Brushes: Review

I Purchased This Affiliate Links

Hey everyone!

Today I have a review on the Real Techniques Instapop Eye Duo Brushes, a set of eye brushes that were recently launched. I first heard about these brushes when EmilyNoel83 used them as part of a Get Ready with Me video featuring other brushes from the line and thought it was so cool to see her do her eye look with virtually just this brush duo. I'm always into finding eye brushes that work well for my eye shape (small hooded double eyelids) so these looked super interesting.

The brush set is $9.99 and available at Real Techniques and ULTA. The brushes come in a set of two, you won't be able to purchase them individually.

The Makeup Show LA 2017: Purchases/Haul

I Purchased This Affiliate Links Press Sample

Hey everyone!

Today I wanted to talk about some of the products I purchased/received while I was at The Makeup Show LA earlier this month. The Makeup Show LA is by far one of the greatest makeup shows in LA, giving professionals in the industry the opportunity to get the most relevant education from the best of the best and stock up on their kit. The last event for the year is the Makeup Shop NYC, a popup event open to the public which gives you the opportunity to shop and get some education too in a lighter format!

I had the opportunity to attend a press preview and get materials from a variety of exhibiting brands and I also shopped around on Sunday to get brands that I might not normally be able to try in person (and at a good price). My purchases/haul span quite a few brands so I thought I'd break it down into Eye Products, Lip Products, Face Products, Brushes, and Skincare. The products I received at the press preview are highlighted with an asterisk*.

Here's the cumulative haul but I have pictures from each section if you'd like more information with my thoughts on some of the products. I'll also have links to each product in case something interests you!

Fenty Beauty Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby: Swatches and Review

I Purchased This Affiliate Links

(Just a reminder, don't forget to enter my blog hop giveaway for either a Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid or Anastasia Modern Renaissance palette or $40 Sephora/ULTA gift card so you're eligible for the $350 cash giveaway. It ends tomorrow at midnight!)

Hey everyone!

Today I have a review of the Fenty Beauty Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby.  I don't think anyone in the beauty community missed out on hearing about Fenty Beauty/Rihanna's makeup line and I wanted to make sure I didn't miss out. Given Rihanna's penchant for color, I was rather interested in seeing how inclusive their foundation was and how there was such a variety of highlighters to fit so many skin tones.

Fenty Beauty Killawatt Highlighter in Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby

I went back and forth between the highlighters; I swatched a few of the duos and the single Metal Moon before I decided on Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby.

Announcement: The Makeup Show LA 2017 - November 4th and 5th

Hey everyone!

I'm so excited to talk about one of my favorite events of the year, The Makeup Show LA! If you're not familiar, this is a professional trade show for individuals in the beauty industry. Unlike other trade shows, this is geared towards working professionals and has much to offer for someone looking to expand their knowledge and network in the community.

The show actually used to be held in March but this year it's being held in November. The dates are Saturday, November 4, 9:00 am – 6:00 pm and Sunday, November 5, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm at the California Market Center in Downtown LA.

Unlike most other trade shows, they emphasize the opportunity to stock up your kit while also learning from those working in the industry without judgment.

Here are some of the offerings and some of my picks for brands to look out for at the show:

Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in Smoldering Satin: Swatch and Review

I Purchased This Affiliate Links

(Just a reminder, don't forget to enter my blog hop giveaway for either a Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid or Anastasia Modern Renaissance palette or $40 Sephora/ULTA gift card so you're eligible for the $350 cash giveaway)

Hey everyone!

Today I have a swatch and review of the Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter and Glow Liquid Eyeshadow in Smoldering Satin. I saw a few posts about this online and swatched it in Sephora, but wasn't sure the formula would actually hold up without being a glittery mess. I ended up reading a few reviews praising the formula and that was enough for me to try it out.

These are a mix of glitter and eyeshadow suspended in a liquid medium, with some shades having a clear to sheer base (making it a great eyeshadow topper) and others having a more opaque base (for wearing on its own). Glitter is typically a very finicky product and loose glitter especially so. This seems to avoid most of the mess by having it mixed in one product.

It Cosmetics Confidence in Your Glow Face Palettes - Review and Swatches

I Purchased This Affiliate Links

Hey everyone!

Today I have a review on the It Cosmetics Confidence in Your Glow, a three-in-one highlighter, blush, and bronzer palette. These are marketed as a "Skin-Transforming Healthy Flush Blushing Bronzer". As a whole, It Cosmetics bases their brand on being a merge of both skincare and makeup, especially their choice to collaborate with plastic surgeons for many of their products.

What's interesting is that it promises your highlighter, blush, and bronzer in one sweep, yet the colors in the pan are running vertically/top to bottom instead of horizontally/left to right. Using a brush to sweep across left to right does a better job at blending the colors together instead of creating a gradient effect of highlighter, blush, and bronzer across your cheeks, but the color you get is still beautiful.

bareMinerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolor in Bo$$ - Swatch and Review

I Purchased This Affiliate Links

Hey everyone!

Today I have a review of the bareMinerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolor. I first heard about these liquid lip colors from EmilyNoel83 on Youtube and she touted them as an extremely comfortable liquid lip color.  I put off buying one until I saw that they were one of ULTA's Hot Buys during their 21 Days of Beauty event. Normally $19, they were $13 during the sale. I picked up Bo$$, described as a dirty pink beige.

The Gen Nude range includes sixty shades across four different product ranges meant to suit all different skin tones. Considering that most people think "beige" when they say nude, I was rather impressed with the variety of colors and formulas I saw.

bareMinerals says:
  • "this long-wearing matte liquid lipstick formula is primer-infused to help color stay in place and prevent feathering. With a velvety, lightweight feel it glides on with no pull and contains moisturizing ingredients to counteract the dryness associated with many matte lipsticks."
The brand makes some pretty big promises and I had high hopes and so I wanted to see if it was really all that different from other liquid lipstick formulas. To read my thoughts and see swatches, feel free to click through!

Catrice Luminous Lips Lipsticks - Swatches and Review

Press Sample

Hey everyone! Today I have a review of three Catrice Luminous Lips Lipsticks in Coffee & Cream, Lovable Me, and Read Me a Cherrytale. I recently reviewed the Liquid Metal Longlasting Cream Eyeshadows and wanted to talk about their lipsticks next. These are an incredible find if you're into a shiny lip products or want to steer away from the matte lip trend.

I'm Late to the Party : Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette Review

Hey everyone!

As you might have guessed by the title, I'm reviewing the popular Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette. The hype is so real, I don't think you could have escaped hearing about this palette last year on social media. Dare I say it, it was probably the most well-known palette launch from last year and it's still popular (especially in comparison to the Subculture palette that just launched).

I know I'm about a year late when it comes to the Modern Renaissance train but it's never too late to talk about this palette. I wanted to give this palette a good try so I did a two looks to show some of its versatility, one warm-toned and one cool-toned before posting this review.

Catrice Liquid Metal Longlasting Cream Eyeshadow - Swatches and Review

I Purchased This Affiliate Links

Hey everyone!

I have a review on the Catrice Liquid Metal Longlasting Cream Eyeshadows. I think I first heard about these eyeshadows on Instagram and on blogs in the UK/Germany. Catrice recently launched in the US but has been much more popular overseas. These were very enticing cream eyeshadows, mainly because the idea of anything promoting themselves as liquid metal/metallic has me saying "sign me up!".

Stay Cool for the Summer: Hard Candy Sheer Envy Coconut Water Primer Stick - Review

I Purchased This

Hey everyone!

Today I have a review of the Hard Candy Sheer Envy Coconut Water Primer Stick, a new cooling water-based primer stick. This stick is meant to prime, refresh, and depuff your skin. The idea for this isn't actually new since there are a few iterations on the internet but this was one of the more accessible ones and I really wanted to try this out especially for the summer.

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser - Review

I Purchased This Affiliate Link

Hey everyone!

Today I have a review on the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser. I know I've been reviewing a lot from Glossier recently but I've had the opportunity to get a bunch of their products thanks to referral credits from you guys so I figured I would try as much from the brand as I could. I'll be rotating in more non-Glossier reviews soon!

But back to the Milky Jelly Cleanser, oh but if I could talk about how hyped up this face cleanser is on the internet. Like the name suggests, the cleanser has a jelly-like texture; the cleanser itself was actually crowdsourced and developed from input by Into the Gloss readers.

I've been using the cleanser for about two and a half months now and wanted to share my thoughts. Click through to read my review and whether I think it's worth it!

Glossier Generation G in Cake and Leo - Swatches and Review

I Purchased This With Referral Credit Affiliate Links

Hey everyone!

Today I have a review of the Glossier Generation G lipsticks. Before I get to the review, I wanted to say thanks to everyone who's been reading my reviews and using my referral link when making your purchases. It's helped me try out more of Glossier's products and review them for you guys. I've already reviewed the Boy Brow, Balm Dotcom, and Cloud Paint if you missed it and I'm focusing on the Generation G lipsticks today.

Glossier says "Generation G is a new kind of lip color that gives the look and finish of just-blotted lipstick, without the blot. We’ve created a short list of the six most important shades, with dialed-down pigment loads for a casual look: Zip, Leo, Crush, and Jam, along with the super subtle Cake and Like, which give some oomph to lighter lip tones. They’re lipsticks that adapt to you, not the other way around, so they'll appear a bit different on everyone as your natural lip color shows through. The effect? Diffused, matte goodness—just swipe it on."

ABH Modern Renaissance Look #2 - A Cooler Smoky Mauve

I Purchased This Affiliate Links Press Sample

Hey everyone!

Today I wanted to share another look I did using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette. Whenever I looked at the palette and saw makeup looks online using the palette, most people went for really warm or reddish looks since there are a ton of warm colors. I already did a warm reddish orangey look using this palette so I wanted to contrast that with a cooler toned look. I went for Buon Fresco since it's a beautiful cooler mauve and it's such a nice pop of cool tones relative to the rest of the colors.

Viseart Petit Pro Palette - Swatches and Review

I Purchased This with Store Credit Affiliate Links

Hey everyone!

Today I have a review on the Viseart Petit Pro Palette. I think most everyone in the beauty community has heard about Viseart eyeshadows; this is a range of French eyeshadows that were primarily targeted towards makeup artists/professionals before being thrust into the consumer spotlight after launching on Sephora.

I've mentioned the brand before, almost consistently every time I went to The Makeup Show LA but I never splurged on one of the palettes despite how well loved they were by the professional community. However, the launch of the Petit Pro Palette (and its $30 price tag) was much more palatable and I decided to pick this up.

ABH Modern Renaissance Look #1: Warmish Orangey Red

I Purchased This Affiliate Links Press Sample

Hey everyone!

I recently got the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette (yeah look at me I got on the hype train can I call myself a true beauty blogger now) when I went to the grand opening party at Sephora Century City.

Given how popular the palette is, I wanted to pretty extensively try it out before reviewing it on the blog. I figured I would share some of the different looks I am able to create from the palette and this is the first one. I'm so into warm orangey red lately so here is the first one I did.

Glossier Balm Dotcom in Original Review

I Purchased This Affiliate Links

Hey everyone!

Today I have a review of the Glossier Balm Dotcom in Original. For a brand like Glossier, who markets that "effortless my skin is perfect so I don't need to use a lot of product but here's what you can use to get that I'm not trying that hard" vibe, it's not surprising that they have something like the Balm Dotcom in their range. It's marketed as a universal skin salve, something you can use all over for dry skin. They say you can use it on lips, cuticles, or any rough patches.

I'm personally someone who really really loves petroleum jelly based lip balms so even though it's $12.00 for 0.5 oz, I had to try it anyway. I'll also make a comparison of this lip balm to my current favorite lip balm later on in the review.

ULTA Juice Infused Lip Oil in Jojoba + Peach - Review

I Purchased This Affiliate Links

Hey everyone!

Today I have a review on the ULTA Juice Infused Lip Oil in Jojoba + Peach. These lip oils are an oil-infused gloss, so there's a lot of shine without it feeling greasy on your lips. This type of product also has the benefit of usually lasting much longer on your lips than the traditional lip oil (because it's got some weight).

The Juice Infused Lip Oil comes in six flavors/scents; each one has different added ingredients which are supposed to benefit your lips in different ways. The flavors/scents are:  Cranberry + Pomegranate, Black Raspberry, Jojoba + Peach, Sweet Rose, Coconut, and Green Tea + Avocado. All of the flavors/scents look slightly tinted but they all apply clear on the lips.

A Lipstick for a Good Cause: MAC Viva Glam II Lipstick - Swatch and Review

I Purchased This Affiliate Links

Hey everyone!

Today's post is about the MAC Viva Glam Lipstick in Viva Glam II. I went to the mall to get a few things from Target and of course I walked by MAC and walked out with the lipstick (after paying of course).

Maybe it's a reaction to the constant "must buy now" mentality of limited edition collections coming out each week, but I feel like I've been looking at staple or permanent products from a brand in a new light. I think it's cause it doesn't make me feel that "gotta have it now FOMO" rush so I don't put products up on a pedestal only for it to fail if it doesn't live up to the hype. Don't get me wrong, I will still purchase limited edition collections if they strike my fancy but is anyone else starting to feel this way about many limited collections?

Glossier Cloud Paint in Dusk - Swatches and Review

I Purchased This Affiliate Link

Hey everyone!

Today I have a review on the Glossier Cloud Paint, the brand's new cream-gel blush launch. Glossier makes some pretty lofty claims about all their products (no one garners a case of FOMO (fear of missing out) like Glossier does) so I couldn't resist getting this along with their Boy Brow (which I reviewed here).

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip - Swatches and Review

I Purchased This

Hey everyone!

Today I have a review and swatches of four Colourpop Ultra Satin Lips. I picked up a few of the best selling shades to try out: Aquarius, Dopey, Echo Park, and Frick N' Frack. I'm a bit late on the Ultra Satin Lip train but I decided to pick them up after they had a promotion for free shipping.

The Ultra Satin Lip are 3.2 grams/0.11 oz for $6.00, which is extremely inexpensive for a liquid lipstick nowadays.

(I love the holographic text but be warned that the writing wears off rather quickly!)

MAC Metallic Lips Lipstick Collection - Review and Swatches

Press Sample Affiliate Links

Hey everyone!

Today I have a review of the MAC Metallic Lips Collection, a line of metallic lipsticks. In contrast to the popular matte lipstick trend, MAC decided to buck the trend with metallic colors. They came out with eighteen colors; some neutral and some looking super bold.

Glossier Boy Brow in Black - Review and Before/After

I Purchased This Affiliate Links

Hey everyone! Today I have a review of the Glossier Boy Brow in Black. I've been chilling out with my makeup routine, going more for a "more is less" kind of vibe and finding products that make me look put together without needing a ton of steps. One thing that can be done super easily are my brows so I looked towards finding something quick and easy.

Glossier as a brand overall exudes that "effortless beauty" vibe and their products follow along the same lines.I've been hearing so much hype about the Boy Brow that I was simultaneously repulsed (because something with that much hype was set up to disappoint  maybe?) and intrigued (okay but what is the truth) so I bit the bullet and bought it.

MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour - Spring 2017 Shades: Swatches and Review

Hey everyone! Today I have swatches and a review of the MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours. (I know my last post was a liquid lipstick review but I've been really into liquid lipsticks lately please forgive me)

In all honesty, when MAC launched their Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours, it took me by surprise, mainly because I felt like they were a little late to the game when they came out. Still, I was so curious about how they compare to other liquid lipsticks on the market. They released more shades for Spring 2017 and I have ten to show you; some of the shades are limited edition while others will be permanent to the range.

I have arm and lip swatches to show you and my thoughts on the formula.

Wet n Wild MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipstick In Rebel Rose: Review and Swatch

I Purchased This Affiliate Links

Hey everyone! Today I have a review of the Wet n Wild MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipstick in Rebel Rose. I know I know, yet another liquid lipstick to talk about but I'll admit that I've really been into liquid lipsticks lately especially as the weather is starting to warm up. This isn't Wet n Wild's first foray into liquid lipstick, they had another formula years ago called the MegaLast Liquid Lip Color (which I absolutely hated) but after hearing some good reviews I thought I'd try one of the colors out.

A New Year, A Reintroduction, and Blog Changes Ahead

Hey everyone!

So recently I was reading a blog post by Krystal (a fellow blogger) where she was taking the time to explain her journey as a blogger and her transition to blogging on her own terms. After reading her post, I felt inspired to take the time to reintroduce myself, give some background into the blog, and explain the vision/trajectory that I have for the blog in the upcoming year and future.

My name is Mai Thy, though I generally go by Mai. I've been blogging about beauty on and off since 2010. Virtually since the beginning of the blog, I was a full college student until I finally graduated with my Master's degree and started a full time job in July 2016.

Though the blog had gone through many changes in the six years since I started (initially I was more into nail polish, then makeup looks, then reviews, and indie makeup), things really changed when I started my full time job and I had difficulty balancing work, home, and blogging. At the same time, I was also dealing with blogging starting to feel like a numbers and money-making game; I felt stagnated and compelled to blog for the sake of blogging and I think my posts began to reflect a change in my enthusiasm and posts tapered off by the end of last year.

For many people, they were happy to see 2016 go. 2016 ended up being an extremely memorable and life-altering year for me. I graduated, got a big girl job, and moved in with my then-boyfriend, now fiancé because we also got engaged. However I know that good change may not be in store in 2017.

However, I am taking this year by the reins, especially when it comes to blogging. I'd like to transition to a new blog name/brand (which has been in the works for a while) and I'd like to return back to blogging when I had more fun and was much less focused on the numbers/popularity. I started getting into planners and planner stickers, especially the ones by Laura/MyNewestAddiction and it's been serving as an inspiration to get both my life and blog in order. I hope to do more makeup looks, reviews, tutorials, and possibly get back into doing Youtube videos.

This week I'm going to IMATS LA and I hope to reinvigorate my love of makeup and beauty brands while at the show. I'll be doing my best to take photos of the makeup that I try (and probably buy) while at the show. Let me know if you're going to be going, I'll be going on Sunday!

Thank you if you managed to get even through part of this post. If you've been reading my blog for a while or recently discovered it, I want to say that I hope that you like the direction that it's going to go in and I hope you stay for my journey. This year will be a year of survival for many less privileged than I and I hope to be able to do what I can to have this blog be a source of positivity and frivolity for those who may need it.

Warm Sienna Browns Eye Look ft. Anastasia Eyeshadows

Hey everyone! It's been a little while since I posted an eye makeup look and thought I'd share one using some of the Anastasia Eyeshadows I got from their Black Friday sale. The single eyeshadows were only $4.80 (discounted from $12.00) and I used Fawn, Fudge, Sienna, and Peach Sorbet in this look.

I'm also trying something a little new when it comes to my eyebrows. I feel like in the past I tried to downplay the overall width of my brows and used product to add "sleekness" but now I'm trying to embrace the overall fullness while still enhancing its shape.

Products Used:

Anastasia Fawn (in the crease)
Anastasia Fudge (in the outer corner)
Anastasia Peach Sorbet (in the inner corner)
Anastasia Sienna (on the lid and blended upward towards Fawn)

I'm trying to make a conscientious effort to update my blog/social media more frequently and balance out my time between work and my hobbies more fairly. The blog got very review-heavy over the last few years and I'm hoping to counter that and go back to my roots with more makeup looks.

Hopefully the new year has been kind to you so far!

Disclaimer: I purchased the Milani, Makeup Geek, Anastasia, and Ardell Lashes myself. I got the Tarte Liner courtesy of Gen Beauty. There are affiliate links in this post which provide me with a commission based off your use of the link.

Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Lovecraft - Swatch and Review

I Purchased This Affiliate Links

Hey everyone! Today I have a review of the Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Lovecraft. I got a mini size as part of a Sephora set and though I've swatched a lot of the lipsticks in store, I hadn't gotten a chance to really try one.

The shade range for this lipstick is massive, thirty nine different shades in typical and atypical colors (including a navy and seafood green). Lovecraft is more a typical color, described as a "matte mauve pink nude". It's like a dusty pinky mauve, a color I find surprisingly flattering on my skin.

Kat Von D makes some pretty lofty claims about the formula but does it live up to the hype?Click through to read my review and see my swatch.
