Fyrinnae Lip Lustre Swatches and Review

Here's the Lip Lustre portion of my Fyrinnae haul. I was so excited about my order (especially since I didn't pay for it) and had been waiting anxiously for it. Mine was quite a small order so it got to me quite quickly, I ordered on the 24th and got it on the 29th.

I purchased a mini Lip Lustre of Romantique and I got a free sample of Isis (they always include one free sample in orders). I could swear the Fyrinnae workers read my mind because I was drooling over Isis but then picked Romantique instead. I have drooled over the Lip Lustres on their site before but I was always squeamish about springing for a full size so their trial sizes are perfect.

.

.

It needs to be stressed that Lip Lustres aren't like lipglosses. To quote "This product is a non-sticky lipcolour, leaving moisturizing colour on your lips but no goopy tackiness. Most shades are made to be relatively opaque though some can be applied lightly over lipstick as a highlight or balm as a sheer tint".

The Lip Lustres do feel light and creamy, the texture feels like a thin lip cream. They feel smooth on, not sticky but not slick. They aren't as wet looking as normal glosses but have a shine due to the color and sparkle. Though Romantique is more on the wearable side, they have other amazing (and color changing!) colors on their site. I'm particularly partial to Ghostly Voice, Narwhal Nuzzles, and Ultra Phantom.

The trial sizes contain 1.5 mL and the full size contains 8.0 mL. The full size is $6.00 and the trial size is $2.00. Both the full size and trial sizes come with a doe foot wand applicator. The doe foot applicator in the trial size isn't as good as the one in the full size so you may want to warm up the tube a little bit to facilitate application (Advice from The Chemist at Fyrinnae!) because it'll be a little sheerer with the trial sizes than the full size.

.

I think the trial size is just adorable, I feel like a giant in Gulliver's Travel holding this positively lilliputian tube. Here's how it looks next to a 3 gram jar for size comparison purposes..

.

When it comes to wear time, the slip/feel of the product goes away after about an hour but the color stays behind for about four hours. I do think that after the product wears away, your lips can feel dry because there's none of the slip from the Lustre left but your lips are not dried out after removal. My lips felt quite soft afterward.

Since these are very metallic/edging on frosty lip colors, they will highlight any dryness so make sure your lips are smooth! You can layer this over a lip balm to improve the feel and moisturizing qualities of the Lip Lustre!

Onto the swatches.

Isis: "True metallic gold. Not a weak, sheer, or bronzy-shade, this colour is fairly opaque (...can be worn semi-sheer or layered over other products) and gives a pure metallic gold finish". I was quite excited about seeing this as my free sample, it's such a pretty color. If you're familiar with any metal eyeshadows (like MAC metal pigments), you'll know that there's this signature metallic scent to the eyeshadow and the lip lustre has the slightest tinge of that scent.

Isis is versatile enough to be worn sheerly or opaquely, so I wanted to show how different it could look depending on application. Do keep in mind that I had the trial size applicator which isn't as good as the full size applicator so you will get a better application with the full size wands.

Heavy application of Isis. In order to get this look, I decided to remove the plastic stopper from the top of the trial size so I wouldn't be limited to the amount I could put on my lips. It was a little harder to get it opaque on the inside seam of my lips but you can ensure better opacity by blotting your lips beforehand to make sure it's dry.

.

Romantique: "Semi-sheer soft warm pink with gold shimmer, similar to our "Rapunzel Had Extensions" eye shadow. More pink than it appears here.". I couldn't discern much of a taste from Romantique but it does have a nice vanilla scent. Since it is semi-sheer, layering Romantique doesn't make it more opaque but increases the depth of the golden shine. You can get a real gilded pink look to your lips.

I don't think I like the formula enough to wear it on its own, I think the product wears away too quickly (while the color stays) leaving my lips feeling like they need something on them to feel moist. I tried wearing a lip balm over the Lip Lustre but it makes it more prone to sink into lip lines. They would look excellent over another lip product though!

Have you tried the Fyrinnae Lip Lustres before? If not, are there any colors you're looking to try?

Gilded Velvet Vampire EOTD

One of the reasons why I love Sugarpill's Goldilux eyeshadow is because it's such a useful color to add depth to any eye look. I feel like my eye can look very flat sometimes and adding the metallic gold to the middle of my eyes catches the light, giving my eye a more rounded look.

I didn't intend on having the liner look that thick but it always seems like my liner comes out the way it does because I messed up and made it thicker to compensate.

Drugstore Dupe Alert: Revlon Emerald vs Urban Decay Junkie 24/7 Liner

When I saw this post by Blushing Noir with her swatch of Revlon's Grow Luscious Emerald liner, I thought it might be a viable dupe for Urban Decay Junkie 24/7 Liner. I've been obsessed with Junkie ever since I saw it featured on Mu-Tokki but it isn't available from Urban Decay other than in their Holiday 2011 Electric 24/7 Travel Size Set of 5. While Emerald isn't a perfect dupe, for Junkie, I do think it's close enough though to stave off cravings for the more expensive Urban Decay liner.

.

A comparison of the two pencils, Junkie on the left and Emerald on the right. Both are in a plastic barrel as opposed to a wooden barrel.

Urban Decay Junkie vs Revlon Emerald

The left scribbly swatch is Revlon Emerald, right scribbly swatch is Urban Decay Junkie. The left single swipe is Emerald and the right single swipe is Junkie.

Revlon Emerald vs Urban Decay Junkie

A closeup of the scribbly swatches. Though it looks like the Emerald is sheerer than Junkie, it actually turns out that Emerald is more pigmented in one swipe when applied on the eyes. Emerald and Junkie have a very similar colored base but the reason that Junkie looks bluer is because Emerald has a higher concentration of the sparkle that makes it appear the slightest bit more green. Though the difference looks quite drastic here, it isn't as prominent when worn on the eyes.

Revlon Emerald vs Urban Decay Junkie

I applied both on my eyes so you could see just how subtle the differences are when worn. Emerald is on the upper lashline, Junkie is on the lower lashline.

.

I think the two are so similar, but I do like the slightly bluer Junkie. Junkie does have its downsides because it is sheerer in one pass (but can be built up to similar opacity) and can't be purchased on its own quite yet (only in the Holiday 2011 Kit on Urban Decay) so its availability is quite restricted.

Emerald on the other hand is pigmented in one swipe, readily available at any drugstore, $8.99 for .04 grams and often goes on sale (I got it for 40% off this week at Rite Aid). As an added benefit, Emerald is a Grow Luscious liner with a formula that is supposed to "help support healthy lashes" though I don't necessarily give much credence to that. If you don't have a Rite Aid nearby, you can get it on Amazon for about $5!

I usually don't like to wear pencil liners because they transfer a little more easily on my oily Asian eyes when I wear them on my upper lashline (which are slightly hooded). The Revlon liner makes no mention of wear time which was troubling at first because I thought it meant that it would have virtually no wear time. It turns out though that it fared quite similarly to the Urban Decay 24/7 liner on me (your mileage will definitely vary, it always seems like the products that last amazing on everyone is less impressive on me because of my eye shape)

With or without primer (I used Too Faced Shadow Insurance), both lasted about 4 1/2 hours before I started seeing the slightest hint of transfer on my eyelid (and I do mean the slightest hint, I was looking hard). Wear time is much better if I wear eyeshadow underneath the liner (over 8 hours).

I hope you guys found this post useful! Thank you so much to everyone wishing me luck on my finals :D I managed four A's and one B this semester (the 2nd B I've ever gotten in college) and I may or may not have rewarded myself with a Fyrinnae order that I'll be posting about tomorrow :X (I had a gift card from Klout so really, I didn't pay anything out of pocket!)

Hustle and Sin FOTD

I've been trying to shop my stash more in order to stave off the urge to buy more eyeshadows (though I'll admit, I did make a small Fyrinnae order with a gift card I got from Klout so really that didn't cost me anything). I rediscovered my Naked Palette and went to town with it.

.

I didn't like any of the close up pictures with my eyes open so here are a bunch with my eyes closed. I really like how I did the liner this time around because it started from the middle of the lid instead of going all the way to the inner corner.

This is even better deal than when I found the palettes at TJ Maxx, so while I won't be taking part in the deal, I hope you guys do!

Graphic Liner Playtime

By no means is this a wearable look but was just a thing I played with in the middle of the night. I drew inspiration from this image I saw on Pinterest and adapted it to my eye shape. No tape but lots of fiddling with q-tips and lots of patience

In other news, I'm so happy because I got an A in a class that I was for sure thinking I was going to get a B in! The numbers added up to a B but I guess my teacher bumped me up a grade and I'm totally okay with that. This definitely makes my summer :D

Nothing says summer like colors of the sun and sunset and it's no surprise that I always veer towards my Sugarpill Burning Heart when I want colors like that. Add in some winged liner and I'm all good to go for an excellent summery look.

I don't know why I look like I have a case of bitchface this picture but I will say that my lipgloss looks good and my eye makeup actually shows up decently from behind my glasses.

Darling Girl Cosmetics Diamond Dusts & Kiss You Off Balm Swatches and Review

I've been trying to stay on a low-buy/no-buy but had a non-splurge moment by getting a review pack from Darling Girl. I especially wanted to try out the Diamond Dusts so I got four of the Diamond Dusts plus two free samples from the 16 Candles and Nerdvana collections.

The Diamond Dusts are a souped up eyeshadow with "a super-lustrous glitter that shines like diamonds" and they really do fit the bill. With the intense amount of sparkle and glitter, I do think you need a glitter fixative or adhesive like Darling Girl Glitter Glue or Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy to make the eyeshadows look their best. Alright Maa! and Farmer Ted are the non Diamond Dust eyeshadows. My swatches really don't do the eyeshadows justice!

Swatched dry with primer only on the left side, and primer+glitter glue on the right side. Pictures taken in natural daylight.

Alright Maa!, Farmer Ted, and Koi

.

.

Alright Maa!: "A slightly garish blue based purple with color shifting glitter, shifting from red, orange, to yellow in certain lights" I saw a ton of blue and pink glitter within the eyeshadows, especially pretty.

.

Farmer Ted: "Cocoa brown with strong pink shift" For me, it does appear differently than it does on the listing swatch. You can definitely see the pink shift and cocoa base though!

.

Koi: "A gorgeous, metallic, orange-leaning coral with loads of blue diamond dust" I wish you could see the blue sparkle in the eyeshadow but my camera wouldn't capture it. The blue sparkle does adhere quite well without the glitter adhesive but if you really want the blue sparkle to pop, I definitely recommend it!

Moondust, Persuasion, and Sushi Flower

.

IMG_3860

Moondust: "Silvery taupe with tons of diamond dust" This is especially pretty with a pink shift/sparkle to it. My propensity to snatch silvery taupes means I immediately wanted this.

IMG_3862

Persuasion: "Medium lavender base with gold shift and turquoise sparkle" This started out as a gift with purchase shade before it was so well loved and made permanent. It's utterly gorgeous and my swatch makes it look terrible over primer only which really isn't the case. I do think it looks best over Glitter Glue if you want it to look especially shimmery and without if you want the purple base to shine through.

IMG_3864

Sushi Flower: "Iridescent blue/purple with a rainbow of diamond sparkle" My swatch makes it look like it needs Glitter Glue but it does fare great on its own. I love purples like this and one I was especially looking forward to. There's ton of blue and pink glitter in it!

I also got a sample of Cherry Darling Kiss You Off: Color Rich Lip Balm because I've never tried any of the Kiss You Off: Color Rich Lip Balms before. It is a soft and squishy balm that you can get great color out of it. There's not too much shine but there's a satiny finish to it. There's no taste (as far as I can tell).

Cherry Darling applied. This reminds me of what your lips look like after eating a cherry popsicle, but just not as bright!

Summer has been good to me thus far, just gotta spend it studying for the GRE :( Thank you everyone who wished me good luck on my finals!

Calming the Flames EOTD

I have my last final coming up in a few hours and I'm so glad for it. I had one of my most difficult finals yesterday and after I came home, I needed to veg out a bit. I didn't feel like being a responsible student at the time so that meant having doing my makeup instead studying :X I busted out my Sugarpill Burning Heart Palette, did this look in twenty minutes and felt so much better afterwards.

Psst the new Sugarpill Heart Breaker Palette* is finally on sale! Go get yours now because I want to live vicariously through you because I won't be getting mine quite yet (oh and in other news I got a press pass to cover IMATS LA so I'm so excited to go!)

Pencil Liner Woes

This is me trying out some of the eyeliners in the Urban Decay Electric 24/7 Eye Pencil set and realizing that I'm definitely not used to pencil liners anymore. I prefer liquid and gel liners instead because I feel like pencil liners don't give me a thin enough line but I shall keep trying with pencil liners anyway!

I added in MAC Lychee Luxe Lipglass just cause I could

Wish me luck studying for my finals this week!

Too Faced Natural at Night Eye Shadow Collection Swatches and Review

A little while ago I won a giftcard from A Brilliant Brunette's Too Faced Giveaway. I haven't really tried out many of Too Faced's eyeshadows before so I did want to try out one of their eyeshadow palette and went with the Natural at Night Eyeshadow Collection.

IMG_2531
The palette comes with three look cards and a sample packet of Too Faced Shadow Insurance.
Too Faced Natural at Night Eyeshadow Collection

The large eyeshadows have 2 grams of product and the smaller pans have 0.9 grams of product. There's a total of 11.4 grams for $36.00.

You can purchase this at TooFaced, Sephora*, and Ulta*.

.

Swatches-ho! These were swatched over Too Faced Shadow Insurance and taken under an Ottlite.

Full Moon, Night Cap, and Cocoa Star
Too Faced Natural at Night Eyeshadow Collection

Full Moon: I'm not sure if you can tell but this has lots of glitter in it so you have to be wary about how you apply this to make sure you don't get fallout all over your cheeks.

Night Cap: It does look mostly matte in the swatch but there is a gold sparkle to it.

Cocoa Star: This applied a little more cool toned on me than in the pan but it worked out quite fine.

Night Light, After Hours, and Eclipse (interestingly enough, the e in Eclipse is upside down)

Too Faced Natural at Night Eyeshadow Collection

Night Light: This eyeshadow was my disappointment in the palette. My problem with it is that it's sheer but also glittery and flaky. The amount of fallout you get is horrendous. The texture is different, brushing over it with my brush didn't get any payoff. I had to gouge at it with the brush to flake off the shadow to apply it.

It's disappointing because it's one of the larger shades that's included in the palette and makes the palette less of a good value because of how badly it performs. I did a look with it and by the time I went to photograph it a few minutes later, I had massive amounts of glitter fallout on my cheeks. Use a sticky base or a glitter adhesive or else you'll be looking like a disco ball.

After Hours: This was one of my favorite shades in the palette. It's a rosy pearl with superior texture. I wish they included more of this color!

Eclipse: It applied less burgundy on me but it had especially fab texture, just like After Hours.

Here's a closeup of Night Light

Spotlight, Moon Stone, and Night Fever. This row had my favorite colors in the collection.

Too Faced Natural at Night Eyeshadow Collection

Spotlight: I'm so glad they included this shade in the palette because it's the perfect browbone shade.

Moon Stone: This was my second favorite color in the palette. It's such a pretty olivey green color with such a smooth texture.

Night Fever: I liked the color but the texture was a little dry.

I do think this palette is a little clunky because it's thick.

Too Faced Natural at Night Eyeshadow Collection

Too Faced Natural at Night Eyeshadow Collection

For me, the palette was hit and miss. The smaller pans of eyeshadow were so much better than two of the large pans but I wish they were larger. I am disappointed that Full Moon and After Light are so glittery and flaky (After Light more so than Full Moon). The two colors make up a good portion of the palette but they are a little hard to work with because of the fallout. I'm especially glad that they had matte colors included, especially the matte skintone shade that would be perfect as a browbone highlight. I think some palette manufacturers often forget to include a browbone color and that prevents it from being a good "all in one" palette.

Would I recommend it? Hmm maybe. I'd definitely say that it's a good way to try out some of Too Faced eyeshadows, especially since the singles are $15.10 for 2.5 grams and the duos are $15.30 for 2.5 grams and for $36.00, you get 11.4 grams in the palette.

Do you own or like Too Faced Eyeshadows?
