Shake Up Your Lips with Lancôme's Juicy Shaker in Walk the Lime

Hey everyone!

Today I'm reviewing Lancome's newest lip product, the Juicy Shaker. The Juicy Shaker is Lancome's take on the Korean oil lip tint. Lip Tints are super popular with Korea and Japan and this launch isn't surprising given the popularity of Korean and Japanese innovations in Western cosmetics.

You might be wondering, what makes an oil lip tint better than a water-based lip tint/stain? Oil lip tints tend to be much more moisturizing than water-based lip tints, which provide color but can be drying on the lips. Oil lip tints tend to have a shinier/glossier finish whereas water-based lip tints/stains dry to a more matte or satin finish (which again, can feel drying). If you have issues with dry lips, you'll might prefer an oil lip tint as they can be more forgiving when your lips aren't in perfect condition.

The range comes in 20 colors with each color having its own corresponding scent. I have the shade Walk the Lime, which is scented like a lime sherbet.

Check out my review and swatch of Walk the Lime.

Where to Purchase: Lancome, Sephora, Nordstrom
Price: $21.00 for 6.5ml/.22 oz
Do they test on animals?: Lancome itself doesn't test on animals but they do sell in China, a country that has the option of testing imported items.
Packaging: The Juicy Shaker comes in a really cute cocktail shaker inspired tube with a cone-shaped cushion applicator. The applicator is actually soft and squishy so you can dab or swipe the product on.

Formula:

Lancome says this is a "Pigment-infused bi-phase lip oil. Shake the Juicy Shaker like a cocktail shaker to mix the pigments and oil. The cushion applicator enhances application by delivering the perfect 'shot' of addictive non-sticky shine and a sheer tint of color to your lips that is simply irresistible. Peach kernel oil; a well-known emollient softens lips while Sweet Almond oil conditions and Cranberry oil provides rich anti-oxidant properties. Muscat Rose oil is rich in essential fatty acids and helps to soothe lips."

To apply, shake up the Juicy Shaker (I shake it sideways the way you would with a cocktail shaker) to mix the pigment and oil. If you have fuller lips or want to apply more of it on, I suggest unscrewing the top, placing it back on, and then shaking again to dispense more of the oil onto the applicator. You apply by either dabbing or swiping onto your lips; dabbing with the applicator will apply more product than swiping it on. These won't separate immediately if you leave them sitting around, it takes about a day to fully separate.

The Juicy Shaker gives a sheer tint that leaves a light stain with a nice glossy finish. It's very comfortable, not drying, not sticky, and though the product has oil in it, not greasy. I find it moisturizing though not as moisturizing as a lip balm. These have no taste so it's okay if you start licking it off. These are scented so if you're prone to migraines or headaches because of scent, this might not be the product for you. Keep in mind that the shades have differing levels of brightness so I say swatch them in stores so you can pick the ones that you like best.

If you want to achieve a gradient lip look, you can apply your usual lipstick on the inner part of your lip and use the Juicy Shaker at the outer corners for a nice tint and gradient. You can also "cocktail" this over your usual lipstick for added shine.

Wear Time:

The Juicy Shaker does have a short wear time, about 2 hours before the shininess wears off but you get a light stain left behind that fades evenly. The applicator makes it very easy to reapply and to intensify the tint as needed and I honestly find myself reapplying it throughout the day because of how it feels on my lips. The applicator makes it easy to dab more color on and the packaging just makes it fun to use.

Swatch:

Walk the Lime is described as a "warm red". Walk the Lime is one of the brighter shades in the line, giving me a strawberry red tint that's sheer but still bright. Walk the Lime has no shimmer in the formula.

Conclusion:

Given the shorter wear time and sheer tint, I think the Juicy Shaker is great to own but not a must-have. I'm very happy with Walk the Lime since it's got a bright tint that looks flattering on my skintone. A lot of the appeal for the product is in the shaker packaging and cushion applicator but thankfully the formula is nice and moisturizing with a light tint of color so it's not just a novelty. While I logically say it's not a must-have, I will say that it's so fun to apply and formula makes it very easy to wear. The packaging truly makes it for the product, I love the one I have and do want to get more. Definitely swatch them in person if you can so you can get a sense of how the colors look next to each other.

When it comes to lip products, do you prefer sheerer tints or bolder colors?

I have the Elizabeth Arden version of this red lip oil, and I like it but don't love it. It feels good on my lips and gives it a tiny bit of color, but it doesn't really hydrate my lips but sits on top instead. This is the second lip oil I've purchased and I won't spend the money on it again.

  4. I prefer bold colors, but for my casual days I use a gloss. This can work for me.

  5. I definitely like the effect it gave on your lips! But I can't deal with short wear time.

  6. It gives you such a natural look. I'm not a fan of flavored/scented lip products so I'm not a Lancome girl.

  9. You know, not everything has to be a be all end all must have. Sometimes a product is just nice to have because it comes in cute packaging and is easy to use on the go.

Thank goodness you did this! I was about to pull the trigger on 2 of these, but for the price I was concerned if it was actually worth it.

  13. I'm a sucker for that packaging and the oils. I bought a couple, but haven't tried them yet! I like the tint on you, but you can wear anything on those gorgeous lips!
