Hey everyone!

Today I'm going to be talking about the Revolution x The Emily Edit The Wants Eyeshadow Palette. I'm not even sure where I should start because I have so many feelings about this eyeshadow palette. EmilyNoel83 is a Youtuber I have been watching for years; she's a brilliant speaker, thorough reviewer, and has such an amazing work ethic. She's someone who's not afraid to speak her mind and tell you when something is not worth it and she's still a positive light in the community. She collaborated with Makeup Revolution for two palettes, an eyeshadow palette (The Wants) and an eye and face palette (The Needs).

This palette looked wonderful and I'm always happy to get an opportunity to support someone who I've enjoyed watching the community. However, there is something that's coming up that's important to know before buying.

This palette really gave me a lot of feelings because it was announced around the time I was done healing from my micro bladed eyebrows. I chose to avoid wearing a lot of makeup during the healing process to make sure I didn't mess anything up but I'd also been feeling like I was in a rut?

I think looking on Instagram and seeing so many creative looks made me feel like unless I put on a lot of makeup, it wasn't worth putting on at all. I've been favoring more simple eye looks, ones where I only put eyeshadow on the top lid and not the bottom and I got it into my head that it wasn't enough. When the palette came out and Emily talked about promoting it for everyone, I was inspired to put on makeup again and even wear eyeshadow at work (I typically didn't because I work in a hospital).

Details/Where to Purchase: 24 x .03oz. Usually ULTA and Revolution Beauty.

Packaging: This comes in a large peach colored plastic compact with a large mirror. What's great about the palette is that the mirror can stand up by itself so you don't have to worry about resting the lid against something to have it open.

Review:

The mattes in the palette work as transition/crease colors but you can still wear them all over the lid. None were so close to each other that they felt duplicated in the palette. I also appreciated the inclusion of a dark brown (Apartment) and blackish color (Dark and Early) to help add depth to looks. Corduroy and Family were disappointing because they didn't apply true to color and were more difficult to pack on. The mattes were firmly pressed and not too soft that they were powdery so they didn't have a lot of kickup when using a brush.

Most of the shimmers in the palette worked fine on the lid but Belle Violet, Pizzazz, and Heart Beat applied better using a wet brush. Side Hustle was especially disappointing and really needed the wet brush. It's been a trend for companies to produce shimmery eyeshadows that are almost too creamy/dense so they swatch great with fingers but can be more difficult to pick up with brushes. The rest of the shimmers including Top Story (my favorite shade from the palette) and Capricorn were easy to work with and applied wonderfully without needing to be applied with a wet brush.

I never wear eyeshadow without a primer and these lasted 10+ hours with primer before they began to crease. In the palette I like the mattes more than the shimmers because some of the shimmers require more effort in to work. I think it's a pretty good palette but it's not without its flaws.

Swatches:

These eyeshadows were swatched over eyeshadow primer using an eyeshadow brush.

First Row: The Cream, Hobby, Prayer, Grateful, Good Vibes, and Side Hustle.

My Warning:

While I may like the palette, right now I can't in good conscience recommend this palette because there is a potential health and safety issue that was discovered after the I purchased the palette. There have been complaints of customers finding mold (yes, mold) on one of the eyeshadows in the palette. The mold has been predominantly found on one of the eyeshadows, Love Tons and a few reports on the color Cheer. Some people have found it on palettes they purchased in store while others have found mold on palettes they purchased online. Please check out Slashed Beauty's post and her experience with the issue

Emily has made a comment on the topic on a video by Jen Luvs Reviews discussing the issue:

"Hi Jen and viewers! For anyone curious, I'd like to share that it was determined that no more than 50 palettes could have possibly been impacted within the two batches of the Wants that were found to have this problem. 24 reports have been made (globally). All remaining batches were checked and were found to have no issues. I'm not trying to diminish the problem, as I wish all manufacturing was a flawless, mistake-free process. I'd love to think that there's zero chance of anything ever going wrong! But with hundreds of thousands of palettes produced, I'm happy to say that this is has proven to be a very small-scale issue. Anyone who HAS experienced this is being offered a refund, replacement and additional complimentary product. And feel free to contact me anytime for further info and updates, if you wish, Jen! (you have my number! :)

A follow up comment in response to another comment asking about how it happened/how MUR could believe it was only 50 palettes affected:

yes it's believed to have happened during shipping, but the actual cause that could prompt such an issue was something that went wrong during the manufacturing phase. Revolution's owner Adam Minto told me they suspect it has something to do with the aluminum pans holding the product in these batches.
".

As of yet, Makeup Revolution has yet to make an official response to the issue, though the palette has been removed from ULTA and Revolution Beauty. I don't and won't consider the matter fully resolved until this knowledge is widely available and announced by both ULTA and Makeup Revolution so that everyone can be informed of the issue and possibly return the palettes.

Conclusion:

I think it's wonderful that someone like Emily was able to collaborate and create a product so close to her. The palette itself is not perfect but I do like a lot of the colors in the palette and can see myself using it. I do hope that it's understood that Makeup Revolution need to be the ones cleaning up this mess. I can't recommend this palette until Makeup Revolution make better steps with the problem and remove the contaminated palettes. It is a beautiful palette so let's hope this gets resolved!

  1. I read about the mold issue, and that certainly is a good reason to return the palette for anyone who bought it, and not to purchase it for anyone thinking about it. It really is a very pretty palette, but most definitely not worth buying for the potential health issues. Gorgeous swatches!

  2. I really wanted to get this and then I read about the mold issues and decided to pass. It is too bad because I would wear almost every shade in this.

  5. I had liked the palette and considered buying it until I heard about the mold issue. It's too bad that the influencers on IG raved about it without mentioning this issue. I hpe it doesn't effect other Revolution palettes.

  6. Yikes on the mold, that sucks. I feel bad for Emily because this could've taken off better.

  7. I'm not really really this palette, and the mold issue is concerning. I'd feel much better if they were more forthcoming rather than all the rug sweeping.

  8. It is a nice assortment but the mold is a lil scary! Most seem to have it in the same color which makes me think its in that pigment maybe!

  10. I had purchased my palette the day it was released. I heard about the mold issue after I had already posted my thoughts on it. It worries me that this kind of feels like it's being swept under the rug since the company has not publicly addressed it. It sucks that others have had mold in their palettes. I'm just thankful that mine didn't have it because I've been using that thing almost everyday because I enjoy the colors in it.

  11. The Wants palette looks gorgeous and the shades Eve Rose, Belle Violet, and Capricorn are absolutely stunning! However, I agree with not wanting to get it at the moment due to the mold issue.
