Colourpop Super Shock Shadows - Swatches and Review

I Purchased This

Today's post is on Colourpop's Super Shock Shadows, which have been getting tons of love from my fellow beauty bloggers due to the pigmented formula and unbelievable price tag (they're only $5.00 each!). I saw swatches of a few of them on Phyrra's blog (feel free to read here) and decided to pick up two colors in Get Lucky and Girly. They're also a local California company so I'm happy to support them (especially since it means I get my order faster!)

These are touted as "long wearing cream eyeshadows with an elastic texture".

Where to Purchase: Colourpop
Price: $5.00 for 2.1 grams/.07 oz of eyeshadow
Do they test on animals?: The company does not.
Packaging: The eyeshadows come in a white plastic jar with a screwtop lid. The lid is clear with "Colourpop" embossed in a holographic font. The eyeshadow itself is actually housed in a metal pan, similar to a pressed eyeshadow.

I do think the packaging has a large profile considering how much product you actually get; the eyeshadow pan is only about a millimeter deep so the rest of the packaging is just plastic. My eyeshadow pans were a little loose in the jar and they wiggled around a bit as I was using my fingers to pick up the product.

Application:

The eyeshadows can be applied with your finger or a stiff shader brush for the greatest intensity or with a fluffier brush for a more diffused look. I prefer using the Sonia Kashuk Small Eyeshadow Brush to both apply and blend out the edges for foolproof application. I find that applying the eyeshadow with a fluffier brush can lead to stray sparkles of fallout, but it's minimal. If you want to avoid it entirely, use a stiff shader brush or your finger.

Get Lucky is described as an "intense, ultra-metallic liquid-like true gold". (Ultra-metallic finish). It is a beautiful mid tone gold that isn't too yellow or bronzy. The color will depend on your skin tone; it'll look like a brighter true gold if you've got a paler skin tone, it'll look more of a lighter, less molten gold.

Girly is described as a "creamy vanilla with a flash of pink and gold duo chrome" (Pearlized finish). This is a wonderful eyeshadow to use as an inner corner highlight or brow bone highlight. I purchased this specifically to use as an inner corner highlight and it's fabulous. It's not too shimmery but the light catches the pink duo chrome well.

Formula and Wear Time:

The formula feels like a mousse-cream and the texture will depend on the shade; Girly feels more wet and therefore more like a mousse whereas Get Lucky feels more like a cream. Once on the lid, they dry down to a powder finish. Due to the creamy formula, you'll need to be sure to keep the lid screwed tightly on to prevent it from drying out.

For Girly (Pearlized finish), without a primer I got 6 hours of wear before it started to crease and 10+ hours with a primer before it started to crease.

For Get Lucky (Ultra-Metallic finish), without a primer I got about 8 hours of wear before it started to crease and 10 hours with a primer. However, Get Lucky is packed with sparkles due to the Ultra-Metallic finish and I noticed some fallout throughout the day. If you wear an eyeshadow primer, it'll help keep the sparkles attached but I'd say you'd get good wear for 8 hours before there's even more fallout.

Conclusion:

These eyeshadows show that you don't have to compromise quality for the $5.00 price tag. 2.1 grams is on par with other cream eyeshadows out there and it also beats the pants off most drugstore brands and has the benefit of not needing to be sharpened. Many of the eyeshadows are also vegan. The ultra-metallic shades like Get Lucky can be prone to some fallout so be sure to wear a primer to prevent fallout.

Have you tried out Colourpop's Super Shock Eyeshadows before? Are there any shades you've seen that have caught your eyes?

  4. This is gorgeous, and I think it's a total dupe for China Glaze's Fast Track from their Hunger Games collection too!
