Best of Indie - Readers' Choice Awards Winners: Part Two (Bath & Body and Fragrances)

I greatly appreciate your patience everyone when it comes to the Best of Indie Winners. School has been taking up a ton of time so it took a little while to edit all the badges for the post. If you missed it, I posted Part One of the winners, focusing on the Cosmetics categories. This is Part Two, focusing on the Bath and Body and Fragrances category. I hope you find something nice to pamper your body and to smell nice with and be sure to read to the bottom for a nice surprise!

Brand Overview Winners

The winners for the Brand Overview Categories are dominated by two brands so instead of just linking to the winners, I'll also be linking to the second and third place winners so you have a great variety of brands to try!

Best Established Indie Perfume Brand
Best of Indie Best-Established-Perfume
Haus of Gloi. Haus of Gloi, an Oregon-based vegan brand, is an immensely popular fragrance and bath and body company. Specializing in unique and artisan blends (with very poetic descriptions to boot). Not only do they offer a core line of perfume oils, they also have limited edition collections available. Their popularity means you do have to be quick with their limited edition scents but no worries when it comes to their permanent line! Their bath and body products also include different scrubs and lotions and butters. They do ship internationally.

Haus of Gloi won with 29.5%, Darling Clandestine came in second with 17.5%, and Solstice Scents is rounding out third with 15.8%

Best Up & Coming Indie Perfume Brand
Best-of-Indie-Best-Up-and-Coming-Perfume
Sixteen92. Sixteen92 (a throwback to the year 1692 and the Salem Witch Trials) is still relatively new (having opened last year) but has risen in popularity for their perfumes and bath and body products. Their samples are also very generous so you get your money's worth if you want to try them out. I hear great things about their Lolita and Toasted Marshmallow scents if you're not sure where to start! Based in Texas, and they do ship internationally.

Sixteen92 won with 40.9%, Smelly Yeti came in second with 17.5% of the vote, and Ten Three Labs came in third with 13.5% of the vote.

Best Established Indie Bath & Body Brand

Again, the winners for these categories was swept pretty much by one company so I'll also be linking to the second and third place winners.

Haus of Gloi Bubbling Scrub. Haus of Gloi Bubbling Scrub won with 43.5% of the vote, Haus of Gloi Emulsifying Scrub came in second with 31.6%, and Arcana Sugar Scrub got third place with 6.8% of the vote.

Best Body Oil
Best-of-Indie-Best-Body-Oil
Black Violet Glow Body Oil and Solstice Scents Burnishing Glace

Black Violet. I'm not too familiar with Black Violet but from what I can see, they're a shop dedicated to producing perfumes and a variety of body care products. It also looks like they have some skin and hair products too (if you're interested in an indie version). I believe they ship internationally.

Solstice Scents. This is a company I'm a bit more familiar with, even though I've never actually purchased from them. They're also a shop selling both perfumes and body care products and they're based out of Florida. I always get a big Fall/Autumn vibe when I scope their site and they're very well known for their Autumn collection! I believe they ship internationally,

Black Violet Glow Body Oil and Solstice Scents Burnishing Glace both split first place with 27.2% of the vote, followed by Haunt Skin Glossing Oil with 23.8% of the vote!

Best Bar Soap
Best-Bar-Soap

Haus of Gloi. Haus of Gloi won first place with 14.9% of the vote, followed by Paintbox Soapworks with 13.7% of the vote, and Wholly Hemp rounds out third place with 13.1% of the vote.

Best Jar Soap

Haus of Gloi Whipped Soap. Haus of Gloi Whipped Soap won with 46.3% of the vote, Black Violet Cream Soap came in second with 17.4%, and Solstice Scents Whipped Soap is rounding out third with 10.9% of the vote.

FYI it looks like Haus of Gloi and Solstice Scents' whipped soaps are a limited edition product so they may not be available right now.

Best Bath Fizzy Product
Best-Bath-Fizzy

Haus of Gloi Butterbombs. Haus of Gloi Butterbombs won with 87.1% of the vote and second place went to Fortune Cookie Soaps with 12.9% of the vote.

FYI The Haus of Gloi Butterbombs are a seasonal product and are usually sold when the temperature is a bit colder.

Fragrances Winners

I was pleasantly surprised at the results of the Fragrances section. Admittedly I was worried that the voting would be consistent for each category but the voting actually varied pretty wildly. Although a few brands won across several categories, the second and third places was generally different!

Best Aquatic Scents
Best-of-Indie-Best-Aquatic-Scents

Darling Clandestine. I'm also not too familiar with Darling Clandestine but they do seem to get a lot of love for their unique and alternative scents. As far as I can tell, they sell perfumes, solid perfumes, and lip balms. The offerings are a bit limited now but I believe they're prepping for a new March collection. I believe they do ship internationally.

Darling Clandestine won with 27.3% of the vote, Black Violet came in second with 18% of the vote, followed by Alkemia with 12.2%.

  1. I've been putting off actually ordering from either Possets or Midsummer Dreams Apothecary, so one of those two!

  2. Just wanted to say thanks so much for all the work you did pulling this together, Mai! It was a lot of fun to vote and to see how the voting shook out.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Oooh I wish I had been more experienced in indie brands when you were taking this poll! Though at this point, I don't disagree with most of the choices. C:

  4. Black Violet sounds really interesting! I'd especially like to try their bath and body products, since I haven't found a HoG scent that works with my skin and would be appealing as a body butter.

  5. I remember when voting was open that I hadn't tried any perfumes or lotions yet, but now I own things from almost all of the winners... the rabbit hole is deep!

    ReplyDelete
  6. I think I've got some new perfume places to check out!

    ReplyDelete
  7. I defs wanna check out Darling Clandestine!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Goodness, Haus of Gloi really swept this one! I can't really argue with it - their stuff is great. I voted a bunch for Arcana, sad to see they only made the list once! But those sugar scrubs are great. :) Thank you for putting this together, it had to be a lot of work and it's a great resource for people new to indies.

  9. It's crazy how much consensus there was! I'm new to indie perfumes, but I've managed to order form most of these brands anyways.

  10. Wow, I've heard a lot of great things about Haus of Gloi, apparently it's not just my friends who think they're great. Ill have to give them a try. Thanks for putting this together, I'll be checking out a bunch of these brands...

  11. So glad HoG did so well- they are such a great brand. They've had fulfilment problems this year as a symptom of huge growth- but I'll be sticking with them because of the quality of their products

    ReplyDelete
  12. it's really interesting to see which companies got the best of scent areas (floral, aquatic) but then didn't get overall best. and it looks like i need more HoG!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Crossing my fingers Darling Clandestine is as good as everyone says when my order gets here!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Wow, lots of Haus of Gloi wins. Thanks for putting the work in for this!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Thanks for putting this together, makes me want to try Black Violet!

  16. Tried HoG several years ago - was not fond of the scents. I find it interesting that it's the same few shops winning, I mean one specific shop can't be the best at almost everything, can they? Next order I have planned is with Deconstructing Eden and I'm excited to try them, even if they didn't win a category. (In the same breath, Sixteen92, who did win categories, is next after DE on my list :))

    ReplyDelete
  32. Well, I've never even looked into Haus of Gloi before, so I guess I need to fix that!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'd really like to check out Sixteen92. Their spring collection looks awesome! I'm sad I missed out on the small window when they had both the spring and winter collections in stock, though.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Can't say I am surprised by the amount of HoG. They have put a lot of work into their recipes and products.

But a bit more variety for the scent winners would have been nice. :P

    ReplyDelete
  35. I've just placed my second order with Haus of Gloi, and it seems that I need to check out Darling Clandestine and Black Violet.
