Nudestix Boho Babe Palette - Review, Swatches, and Photos

Hey everyone!

Today I'm reviewing the Nudestix Boho Babe Palette. This is a set with six pencils across four different product lines. The set contains one Gel Color Lip and Cheek Balm in Tay Tay, three Magnetic Luminous Eye Colors in Angel, Burnish, and Nudity, one Magnetic Matte Eye Color in Fig, and one Magnetic Matte Lip Color in Boho.

If you're not familiar, Nudestix is a line based on makeup crayons/pencils that come in a travel-friendly tin + sharpener. You can buy the pencils individually or in curated sets/palettes. Currently, you're not able to buy just the pencils themselves so you might end up collecting a lot of extra tins. I find that their palettes/sets are the most cost effective way to buy from the brand. They have many curated sets where you get six pencils for the price of about two and a half pencils.

I'll be reviewing each formula in the post and talk about which product I liked and which products were misses (because not everything will work out for everyone).

Details/Where to Purchase: The Boho Babe Palette retails for $59.00 for six pencils. You can get this palette on BloomingdaleNudestixSephora, and Ulta. Individually, the pencils are $24.00 each.

Packaging: When purchased individually, each pencil comes in a tin with a sharpener. Currently there's not an option to buy the pencils individually without the tins. Considering that the pencils they do have that come without the tin + sharpener are $12.00 vs. $24.00, it probably speaks to the price you pay for the outside packaging.

Gel Color Lip and Cheek Balm

Nudestix says about the Gel Color Lip and Cheek Balm: "Are you ready for this Gel-ly? Finally, an über-moisturizing lip balm with rich color and gel shine. This multitasking balm has all the good stuff--over 30% super-hydrating lip-protecting plant oils derived from rapeseed, sunflower, cottonseed, and soybean; as well as Vitamin E as an antioxidant--to add vibrant color and smooth coverage for your lips and cheeks. Goodbye stickiness and hello gloss!"

The gel color lip and cheek balm are a comfortable gel-balm hybrid. I quite like the "juicy" shine that I get from the formula. I don't think it's entirely sticky free, it feels slightly tacky like a lip balm and lasts about three hours. I do think it's quite a hydrating formula because my lips felt softer after I removed it. This particular color can settle into lines due to the slightly translucent finish and shimmer though it doesn't go so far as being metallic. Personally I'm not a big fan of the color on me because I feel like it's a little too light but I am interested in other colors in the line. I can take it or leave it with this product, it's not terrible but I'm not super enthusiastic (at least with this shade).

Magnetic Luminous and Matte Eye Colors

Nudestix says about the Magnetic Luminous Eye Colors: "An über long wearing eye shadow pencil that highlights, provides intense luminous color, precise lining and primes lids for all day wear. This longwearing, waterproof, neutral eye shadow pencil delivers and highlights the face’s highpoints; like cheekbones, tear ducts and brow arch. This 4-in-1 application is easy to use, but still gives intense color, precise lining, and primes lids for all day wear. Ideal for oily lids..."

Nudestix says about the Magnetic Matte Eye Colors: "Say hello to the new mattes! These 3-in-1 pencils are color, liner and base all-in-one – even safe in the water line for that added definition. Magnetic Eye Color pencils are easy-to-blend eye shadow stix that provide intense color, precise lining and primes lids for all day, budge-proof wear. Achieve subtle, natural smoky eyes or a luminous wash of color on the lids that will last all day with the innovative waterproof, smudge-proof and transfer-proof formula. The smooth and soft gliding color has even payoff and will keep you look fresh for up to 9 hours."

These are pigmented and can be applied with and without eyeshadow primer. These do dry down quickly so it's best to work on one eye at a time with either your fingers or a brush to blend.

As a standalone lid color, I loved how it looked but I didn't like how it felt. The eyeshadow does set and dry down but the texture remains feeling tacky. I think having hooded eyelids really accentuated that sticky feeling. The sticky texture seems to cause the color to want to settle in my crease. Between the Magnetic Luminous and Matte formula, the Magnetic Matte Eye Color seemed a little more sticky.

As an eyeshadow base, the sticky texture actually made it great for gripping eyeshadow and enhancing the color. It worked so well and it made my eyeshadow last 9+ hours without creasing even without any eyeshadow primer. Paired with eyeshadow primer, this + eyeshadow lasted 11 hours. I really loved how it amped up any eyeshadow that I wore with it.

As an eyeliner on my lower lash line, it feels much more comfortable than it does on my eyelid. The longevity is also better than when worn on the eyelid, approximately 7 hours without creasing without eyeshadow primer, 9+ hours without creasing when paired with a primer.

If you don't have hooded eyelids, this might be a good option to check out if you don't mind working fast. Because I have oily eyelids, the formula doesn't work well by itself but I do think it's a wonderful eyeshadow base. In the future if I do decide to get more, I'll be wearing it as a base vs. a standalone color.

Swatches of the Magnetic Luminous and Matte Eye Colors:

The Magnetic Matte Eye Color in Fig looked so beautiful blended out looking like a smoky eye. The Magnetic Luminous Eye Colors in Angel, Burnish, and Nudity catch the light and add a ton of shimmer to the eye.

Here are arm swatches of each color.

Magnetic Matte Lip Color

Nudestix says about the Magnetic Matte Lip Color: "Lasts like a Tattoo, lightweight pigments like a liquid lipstick, and easy to apply like a pencil. A multi-tasking 3-in1 lip stain, lip color, and lip liner all-in one that is extra long wearing, extra kiss-proof, extra transfer-proof and extra pigmented for those looking for maximum lip performance and color intensity in must-have rich nude tones. Its über longwearing formula provides smooth coverage that can easily take any lip look from the hallway to the runway."

This is supposed to be long lasting yet lightweight and transfer proof. I do think the formula is pigmented and it is easy to apply like a pencil. That's pretty much it when it comes to nice things about the formula. The comparison to a liquid lipstick is apt since it's pretty much the bad parts of liquid lipstick turned into a pencil.

When I first put it on I get this burning sensation on my lips that goes away after a few seconds. On top of that, it looks and feels quite drying on the lips. I don't really think it's lightweight because it stays feeling tacky for a while resulting in your lips sticking if you press them together. I think there are a lot of other matte lip products out there that aren't this annoying to apply and wear. I think the Intense Matte Lip and Cheek Pencils boast a far superior formula (blog post and swatches of two colors). The Magnetic Matte Lip Color though was a miss for me.

Conclusion

I love the idea behind palettes like this that give you the chance to try out a variety of product ranges at a discount. The set contains full sized products so for the price of two and a half pencils, you get six in a nice travel-friendly case. I also appreciated the set because it made me realize which formulas I didn't like (the Magnetic Matte Lip Color) and which formulas I can make work for me (the Magnetic Luminous and Matte Eye Colors). Between the three formulas, I might repurchase the Magnetic Luminous Eye Colors to use as an eyeshadow base but I would also like to steer you towards the Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Pencils which I think boast a far superior formula.

Have you tried anything from Nudestix? Anything I'm missing out on?

  4. If I was a heavy traveler, these would be just the thing. I'm only considering them because you say they last forever on the eyelids. That's something that doesn't happen for me with most wax pencils.

  10. I haven't used my Nudestix in a very long time. I bought a set in 2016 and loved the eyes the most but it's put away - until tomorrow when I take it out now that you've reminded me.

  11. I like the shades, especially in the summer when I don’t love wearing heavy colors

  12. Angel is so pretty! It's one of the colours I wanted to try but they had sold out. The Nudies Tinted Blue Sticks are nice if you like sheer coverage although if you have oily skin, you may need to beware of breakouts with constant use.

  20. I really wanted this set for a long time but now that I've read your review, I'm not sure. The lip color would not suite me and I don't like that they feel sticky. I'll skip.

  21. I really like the eye colors, and I'm really into shadow sticks in general. Not too excited about the fact that they remain sticky though... I should try them and see how they work for me.
