Tom Ford Cream Color for Eyes in Burnished Copper - Swatch, Review, and Photos

Hey everyone!

I'll admit, I'm someone who loves owning high end/luxury makeup but my inner voice still struggles with actually exchanging that amount of money for the goods. Whenever I do decide to get something high-end/luxury, the process ends up being finding a product, ruminating over it for a period of time, before finally purchasing it. The latest brand I started looking at was Tom Ford.

Everything about Tom Ford products screams "luxury" (with a hint of inaccessibility). The packaging is simple yet on brand and the products are definitely aspirational. I had been going back and forth over the Cream and Powder Eye Colors vs. the Cream Color for Eyes and finally decided on the Cream Color for Eyes in Burnished Copper.

Review:

Tom Ford says: "The luxurious, cream eye shadow illuminates eyes in the lustrous glow of eight, ultra-pigmented metallic shades. The versatile cool and creamy formula seamlessly glides onto the lid to brighten eyes without crease or smudge."

These have a soft creamy mousse consistency, which makes them easy to apply and blend out. I think harsh edges are near impossible to have because it doesn't dry down too quickly so you have time to blend it out. You can certainly use fingers or a brush to apply it onto your eyelids. I do think the texture lends itself to build up the color onto your eyes.

While I love the look, I'm so disappointed in the wear time despite its claims about not creasing or smudging. Oily hooded eyelids like mine can be trouble for most eyeshadows and this was no exception. Without eyeshadow primer, the eyeshadows creased at the 3 hour mark. With eyeshadow primer, the eyeshadows fared only a little better and creased at the 4.5 hour mark. I'm not surprised that these are sold in duos because I think they need a powder to set the finish. When paired with an eyeshadow, these were able to last 5 hours without creasing without eyeshadow primer and 12 hours without creasing with an eyeshadow primer.

These would make a great eyeshadow base but it's not without crease or smudge.

Swatch

Burnished Copper. I'm honestly a little confused about why this is called burnished copper because it's a really beautiful deep olive green.

Conclusion:

I'm super torn because I honestly love how gorgeous it is but it's not the one and done eyeshadow that I dreamed about and it's not living up to its "without crease or smudge" claim. I'll continue to wear it as an eyeshadow base when paired with gold or bronze eyeshadows but it definitely stings to have this $46.00 eyeshadow not live up to the hype.

  1. I need to dig through my stash, but I think that I have this one. The color is absolutely stunning, but it is too bad that it lacked longevity. I haven't worn any of mine in quite a while.

  2. I haven't worn a creme in a long time. I have a little more fat to my face than 10 years ago and so my lids crease easily. I also have dry skin and live in a humid area so I tend to only wear powders. I agree that this would be in my pass box though!

  3. I own one of these shadows and wish I hadn't bought it. This formula is so popular with all the high end brands but the others like Chanel and Armani do it better. The Charlotte Tilbury ones last very long on me and are just as smooth.

  8. I hate when expensive makeup items turn out to be a disappointment. I have a few of these that were gifted to me by a friend and I thought they were just okay.

  9. I love how gorgeous this looks but I don't know if I could justify that price tag with that longevity.

  11. I thought I had commented on this, but Blogger seems to have eaten it up :( I only have an eyeshadow quad and some lippies from Tom Ford. Bummer about the wear-time and creasing on this. The powder shadows seem to do better!

  12. oooh, ouch on the price, and it is beautiful. I agree it's more of an olive, but that wear time...I don't know if that would be ok with me. But yeah, I really love luxury makeup too

  13. That's actually totally gorgeous but that sucks about the wear time. I keep hearing about these but that price tag is a little high for me. Hourglass just released shadows that are similar and like, half the price if you want to try an alternative. I might pick up one or two.
