From what I've read, this is the same Great Lash mascara formula only with a new brush. The Great Lash Lots of Lashes brush is teardrop shaped with plastic bristles extending outwards and tapering to the tip with sort of a small flat plug at the top of the brush. It is a rather small brush.
Surprisingly I actually liked this mascara but there's a caveat to that. I only liked it after it "aged" or dried out a bit and I believe it's a sentiment echoed by others. When I first tried it out, the formula was too wet on my lashes and made a mess which was only exacerbated by the brush. The bristles are tapered so there are very short ones near the tip and lots of product collected at the tip of the wand which wasn't cleared out by the stopper so you'd have to scrape off the excess which was still difficult when the mascara had a really wet formula.
Hopefully you can see how much product collects at the tip.
The wand worked fine when I was using it through my outer lashes but because excess product collected at the tip, it would deposit so much onto my inner lashes that they became a clump fest and it felt really heavy. I tried it, didn't like it but kept trying it several times. After letting it sit for two weeks, I noticed that the formula got a little drier and a little stiffer. I tried it out and lo and behold, it was so much better when it wasn't such a wet consistency!
When it comes to my lashes, they're very very straight and naturally angle downwards. I can't wear washable mascaras because they always wilt the curl in my lashes and this mascara was no exception.
Here's what it looks like on my lashes. Bare lashes on the left, Great Lash mascara on the right.
Hopefully you can see that the mascara added volume, separated, and evened out my lashes but did limp the curl a bit. I think someone looking for a natural but amped up look to their lashes who can wear washable mascaras can try out the Great Lash Lots of Lashes, provided they're patient enough to wait for the formula to dry out.
TL;DR Version: Won't repurchase, mascara needs to dry out before it works well with the brush, another Great Lash product.

the package seems almost wasteful - i guess it's a good ish marketing tatic for the new brush but meh. Even when those mascaras are on sale here (like $15-20) i still won't buy them coz of the horrible reviews, seems this one is no different yet again~ Love the concept, not so much the execution though~ thanks for the review ^.^
ReplyDeleteI have and actually think LOL lashes is better than its predecessors. It is the only Great Lash that's worked for me. I think the formula was changed a little to work with the brush as it seems to have more body compared to the original great lash, great lash big and great lash curve.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with you re the brush and wasted product at the tip. It would be better if the brush applicator was longer.
@Jen Everything outside of the US is horrible in pricing, it's ridiculous. I'm appalled at the prices in Australia and I imagine in NZ it's worse!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous Thanks for the input, I do wish I had the ingredient lists to compare between the mascaras. I think I read somewhere that it's not necessarily the formula that alters how a mascara works but the brush, maybe it's the same with this mascara?
