Inglot, why do you test me so?

I originally posted this on my tumblr a few days ago, but then I realized that it needed to be said here. I'm ringing in June with a rant!

I was looking at some Inglot stuff on Inglot USA’s online store (I have a gift card to Macy's where they stock Inglot) and though I knew that their site is information-lite, it never bothered me as much as it did now. Despite the fact that the site has all the products available for sale with the pricing and pictures, they lack any and all product descriptions and that is beyond stupid to me.

Inglot has some physical presence in the US (they have several freestanding stores and have counters in Macy’s stores) but for the most part, you have to purchase the products online. I would think that their website would be amazing and would tell you all this fluff to make you want to buy everything but nope, EVERY product lacks a product description. Giving me a product name, price, and a picture does not a complete listing make and I don’t want to be confused about your product and I'm sure you wouldn't want me to be either.

Don't get me wrong, I really do like their products, especially their Freedom System which I think is a "Pick your own palette" option that more brands should be emulating (I'm talking to you Urban Decay). I'm disappointed at how bad their website is when the product is so good.

Why would you use acronyms (like YSM, AMC, DS) and not give an explanation for what it means? If you're curious, AMC=Advanced Makeup Components, YSM=Young Skin Makeup (as opposed to Old Skin Makeup?), and DS=Double Sparkle. Thank god for other bloggers since I wouldn’t know what it means. If you're searching for a good explanation of their eyeshadows, Jessica from OutInAPout wrote an excellent guide.

I shouldn’t have to be running around trying to figure their products. I know that people were pushing Inglot to come up with an online store after they were hyped up by Youtube Vloggers for their Freedom System palettes (which are admittedly awesome) but to come out with this functional but information-lite site is frustrating. Their "About" page tells you nothing (in fact, it's just a bunch of gifs of their Freedom palette and the Freedom System page redirects to the same set of gifs) and their "F.A.Q." page makes no mention of their products. The global Inglot site also lacks any product descriptions.

Inglot please, help me buy from you because this is a turn off of epic proportions. I am lucky because I actually have an Inglot store and counter in Macy’s closeby so I could easily go to the store and ask the associates but it doesn’t mean I should have to. Trying to research anything beforehand (like what the foundation acronyms and undertones are) is a futile task and things should be changed so customers that don’t have the luxury of seeing the product in person shouldn’t have to suffer through figuring out what would and wouldn’t be right for their skin.

It's quite disappointing because this came about because I was trying to figure out what the undertones for the concealers were and couldn't find ANYTHING on it. I’ve already emailed them with a list of the questions I had to ask and I imagine I’ll be coming up with more.

If you're in the US, have you shopped from or used the Inglot USA site? Do you find it as annoying as I do?

  1. Inglot has a nice size area in Nigel's Beauty Emporium in LA
(I don't own any Inglot, mostly because 1. their website is confusing and lacks a ton of info 2. Nigel's, while here, is a bit of a drive >.<) I wanted to buy from them last year, but the website is seriously confusing.

    1. I am excited that they'll be at IMATS LA, though I know it'll be difficult dealing with the massive crowd that'll be there

    2. We do have a large selection of Inglot Cosmetics at our store in North Hollywood but we do not sell Inglot online but feel free to call us and we will take your order over the phone.

  2. I couldn't agree more! I have ordered from their site twice and yes, very frustrating that there are no descriptions. It was a crapshoot as to what the colors were really going to look like. I did search for swatches online before I placed an order. That really did help.

And yeah... all those TLA's (three letter acronyms as we call them where I work!) Get to be pretty confusing. YSM? AMC? What does 'Advanced Makeup Component' really mean anyways!?

Thanks for the rant! It was much appreciated :)

    1. It is annoying that the website undermines the company. I really like their eyeshadows but the colors on the site are a joke. The acronyms definitely are frustrating!

  3. Oh yes, it is definitely hard for me to purchase things on their site without any detail. Especially the colors for their eye shadows because you can't click on it or hover over it to get a better image of the color through descriptions, so I constantly have to google many swatches of them. This makes me want to go to a physical store than use their online store, but it's quite inconvenient since there's only one Macy's around here that has Inglot in there.

    1. I'm hoping they continue to expand so other people can be exposed to their great awesomeness without the frustration of their site.

  4. I've purchased from Inglot online. I like the quality of the products. I feel like it's a crapshoot to pick colors because their swatches with no descriptions are awful. That said, their customer service is great. I've emailed asking for advice and they've been wonderful.

  6. Luckily I live fairly close to an Inglot store. After a recent experience of ordering some things, receiving a wrong item, and not getting a solution to the issue after FIVE emails, I won't order from them anymore

    1. what a terrible experience! I, too, have emailed them at least twice so far about an order i submitted 6 days ago that has not yet shipped. I've received zero communication from them. they're prices are great, but so far their customer service is shoddy in my books. Terrible!

  7. Yes this is seriously annoying and I don't understand why they wouldn't put any description AT ALL, it just doesn't make sense! An Inglot finally opened in a Macy near me and I was soooo happy! But STILL I like to research the products I plan on buying before I go in stores (I'm so indecisive and we spend hours if I don't decide ahead of time). They need to improve their website stat!

  8. I'm on the same page as you. I wish their site was more consumer friendly cuz pictures and numbers are not enough. I ordered during their black Friday sale and was sent a wrong product because it had the same number but what I ordered was a cream blush and what I was sent was a cream liner. Hopefully they'll improve their site because the closest inglot to me is in San Francisco which is about an hour away and I can't easily just go because I use a wheelchair.

  9. I have recently given an online order to be sent to a US address, and it was a spanish debit card, the website told me transaction was not successful, but now I realized they actually charged me and the customer service do not reply inquiries quickly, so it makes me nervous! They should have more detailed F.O.Qs and a better customer service. In Europe Inglot is very successful I think, they have many stores around and they have competitive prices but they need to progress their online ordering system!

    1. This must be nerve-racking! I'm somewhat in the same boat, the first two times i tried to put through an order i was told it was unsuccessful. The third time i tried, it went through but 6 days and 2 unanswered emails on, the order still appears as 'authorized' :S
