Q and A Wednesday: How do you feel about lip products that stain?

As I was going through the motions of doing lip swatches and having to deal with coordinating my swatching so I could leave the products that stained towards the end of the process, I wondered about what you guys feel about lip products that stain (and I mean the ones that aren't advertised as staining).

I have mixed feelings on lip products staining. On one hand, it can help colors appear to last longer if your lips are stained the same color as the lip product. On the other hand, it can be annoying if the stain lasts a significant amount of time.

What are your thoughts on the topic?

  1. I don't usually mind as I tend to wear lipstick all day, however I've had a few products stain my lips for days on end, that I did not like!

  2. It won't stop me from using the product completely but I will avoid wearing that product if it might interfere with another look; like I won't put on a bright staining lipstick if I know I'm going to wear a light or nude color the next day. I think I would prefer that lip products not stain my lips. But like I said, it doesn't keep me from buying or wearing something that stains. I just plan products/looks accordingly.

  3. I've never had my lips stained for more than a day (or at least I haven't noticed it happening). I don't mind at all if the color is pretty close to my natural lip color, for me it's a purpley-pink. Oh and as long as it fades evenly! Nothing worse than patchy zombie lips lol! :)

  4. Generally it's fine - if it's a pink, red or sometimes a purple, I don't mind the stain at all. If I don't want to wear that colour the next day, I can cover it anyway. I always try out crazy colours on my hand to see if they stain, however - I don't want blue or green stained lips.

  5. I rather liked it because it makes the color last longer (in a usually more natural shade). The only distinct downside I can think of is that if it stains too long, it will interfere with the color of the next lipstick you put on.

  6. I generally like staining lip products, as long as they can be removed easily with the right product.

  7. I prefer light lip colors that  don't stain.

  8. True true, some stains can be more readily removed than others!

  9. It's sort of a catch 22, there are some colors that are so pretty but stain but lighter colors that aren't so pretty that don't

  10. I don't mind it much.  I have a good makeup remover and if worse comes to worse, I use a lipstick the next day to cover it up.
